Superstars makes new appointment

19/10/11

A Cardiff-based child development company has strengthened its team with the appointment of a former primary school headteacher as an advisor, as it continues to roll out its services across the UK.

Former head teacher Leighton Rees from Carmarthenshire joins SuperStars to support the quality and control of programmes delivered by the company, which works with over 150 schools across the UK.

Providing a full breadth of curriculum cover including sport, drama, art and music, Mr Rees will ensure that the programmes delivered by SuperStars continue to measure up to school inspection standards.

On his appointment, Leighton Rees, former head teacher of Bigyn Primary School, Llanelli said: “I am delighted to be joining SuperStars, as the company continues to embark on rolling out its services. I feel that it is important that all children have a broad range of relevant learning experiences and opportunities. The SuperStars provision supports schools in delivering these to pupils. Having held a headship position for over 26 years I am looking forward to drawing on my experiences in the education sector to ensure that SuperStars is continuing to deliver lessons to a high standard.”

Established by James Taylor in 2005, SuperStars was originally launched as SportStars before being rebranded in 2010 to incorporate the company’s diverse offering including sports coaching, art and music lessons, afterschool clubs and holiday courses. The company has continued to roll out its services across the UK and opened offices in Bristol, Hereford and Liverpool.

James Taylor, managing director of SuperStars said: “Leighton’s appointment has come at a very important time for the company as we continue to break into new markets both here in Wales and across the bridge.  Leighton has a wealth of knowledge and firsthand experience of the education sector and brings with him a strong understanding of the level of service schools require from companies like us.

“I developed SuperStars to predominantly specialise in sports to encourage children to become more active, however since launching over six years ago we have continued to develop and diversify to meet the changing needs of schools we work with. With Leighton’s expertise I am confident that he will be able to further support the development of the company’s offering  to schools as we continue to enter new geographical locations.”
