Weaving through...

Last term our art specialist worked with year 4 and they completed a weaving project. It was quite a challenge with a large class, a lot of the children needed quite a bit of support and some really struggled to get to grips with the technique. They all got there eventually and produced a little woven owl by the end of the project. This term our specialist has a small group of those year 4 students in her after school club and they asked her if they could do more weaving. A few of the children that really struggled attend the group and quite a few weeks have passed since they last did any weaving. Our art specialist was fully prepared to deal with all of their frustrations and give lots of demos and support until they cracked it. How wrong she was - they were amazing. They had remembered everything she'd taught them and just began weaving with such confidence and are producing almost perfect weaves. They were so relaxed whilst weaving a couple of the girls started singing to themselves, so she encouraged the others to join in and before long they were really going for it singing 'Little Mix' songs as a group while still confidently weaving.
